Wrapping Paper
This year I am only using the brown paper from grocery shopping bags to wrap presents. I just can't get myself to spend money on colored paper that you buy, wrap around a box with some tape, rip open and then throw away. If I run out of bags, then I think I will just buy the re-usable bags from TJ's and use those to put my presents in. They are actually much cheaper than holiday bags and can serve multiple purposes. And I am not buying tissue paper. I decided to boycott that a while ago. Although, if you give it to me in a present I will re-use it. You know that you can iron it back to it's beautiful flat self, right?

Oh Amber that sounds like a good idea. I just ran out and bought Christmas paper because we didn't have any. But the gifts were for needy children so I couldn't use the birthday wrap that I wanted to use as this may be one of the few gifts they get. But I think from here out, plain wrap and Abby and Lila can stamp and color their hearts out on it!
Great idea! I forget where read it, some blog, that talked about using fabric scraps to wrap presents, then you can just keep reusing them...
Awesome Amber! We totally reuse all of the bags that are given to us, but I love the idea of wrapping them with the brown grocery bags... I might be stealing that... Jennifer's idea is awesome too... I might be stealing that as well...
Yeah, it's fun to let the kids color and decorate them too!
I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned the old-fashioned comic strip idea from newspapers. Of coures, I'd have to subscribe to a newspaper to do that! : )
Hey, you've inspired me. I just thought of another one...
Use tins and cannisters to wrap presents. For instance, a lot of chocolates and coffee and hot chocolate and cookies come in tins or cannisters. Don't throw them out. Use them to wrap presents. Put the gift inside and the tie raffia or a ribon around it (leftover ribbon you alread have, of course).
Something else...You know, I haven't bought Christmas bags or tissue paper or bows or ribbon in years. I just snatch up all of the ones left on the ground after the unwrapping frenzy. Most of my relatives want to throw them away, so I grab them. It has saved me lots of money over the years.
So, I think we should put all of these ideas together and publish them somewhere. People (esp. in Ojai) would eat it up! Hmmm......
Okay ... so Martha as this stash of wrapping paper ... so I guess some of my presents will be wrapped with the real stuff. It was kind of weird because I wrapped our Angel Tree gifts last night and I just liked how pretty they looked. I used this shiny red/gold striped paper with some really pretty ribbon ... It kind of goes along with the "clean does not have a smell" (see Lisa's blog). The wrapping doesn't make the present any better ... but in my consumerist mind, I guess it does. I love all of the alternative ideas that everyone has come up with. Here's to more resourceful wrapping in the future : )
All those people working at wrapping paper factories are going to be out of jobs by next Christmas, then they'll lose their homes and will be living in shelters. Then maybe we can send them gifts wrapped in paper bags that we had our kids hand stamp. I'm sure they'll be so appreciative.

I had thought of the TJ 99cent bags last week however I'll probably do some tissue, it's so cheap from Costco and really dresses up the bag. I love the bags for everything,,,I try to not buy anything that won't fit in a bag so I don't have to wrap, mostly becuase I am not gifted in the slightest way in wrapping.
